Meditation & Action

By Sanjib Mukherjee,

Meditation is the art of letting go of one’s thoughts and emotions, and simply diving deep into the very essence of our existence. Science can explain how our bodies are the product of a male/ female interaction, but has yet to go any further in explaining where our actual mind, memory, intellect, ego and emotions and come from.

By moving our awareness beyond the body and the consciousness, we actually enter into a realm of energy which stores every layer of our being and in doing so, enables us to remove our daily stresses and unite us with the cosmic energies which drive us all. Many ancient philosophies have spoken in great detail about the infinite energy that lies within and how we are all universally connected, even modern science has started to accept such theories with the advent of meta-physics and quantum evolution.

However, for our purposes, all we need to know is that Meditation provides us with a unique set of tools to transcend our surface level awareness of ourselves and by focusing deep within our body/ mind complex, we actually can unite with a universal source of energy which gives us the renewed vigour and enthusiasm to be active in the world when we come out of meditation and back into an everyday sense of bodily awareness.

It’s much the same way, by sleeping you become refreshed and energised when you wake up. Thus, only by being truly relaxed and stress free, can one be totally active and in the present moment. Through deep rest and meditation, one becomes focused and able to channel our latent energies, this is how meditation is actually complimentary to action.

“The key to growth is the introduction of higher dimensions of consciousness into our awareness.” Lao-Tzu said that, and he was right. Beautiful article on Meditation and Action, Sanjib.

  6. Manish Oceanic says:

Sanjib…i agree in principle that ‘when it comes from the heart everything becomes effortless’ … but to reach that state of consciousness is no easy task…it needs an enormous amount of commitment & hard work…years of sadhana!….and then all of a sudden it clicks!…even more difficult is to sustain it amidst all the daily distractions that … See Moreflood our everyday consciousness…the trivialities of daily living are the silent killers sanjib!…but i agree…it’s a different view when you sit on the pedestal of kindness….every little job in life becomes an opportunity to practice kindness….would like to quote Deepak Chopra…”love is more than a sentiment…it’s at the very centre of creation”

  10. Rekha Malhotra says:

A very calm and relaxed morning Sanjib…this is the topic i am always curious to know about ..as i think i could not actually understand what is meditation and why i always felt that whomever were participating in meditations classes were more enjoying it and feeling more calm and relaxed but i could not feel that depth inside me..or understand what is actually meditation..so this is indeed of my great interest to know about it..i truly agreee that we may be knowing ourselves within us deep energies after meditation processes and may be much more relaxed and stress free like we feel refreshed after sleeping..but for sleeping actually we dont have to think much if we are tired after long day of working hard we may sleep easily..but for meditation we need some enviroinment to feel relaxed and sit in meditation.may be al that also we do and we may achieve a good meditation also.but today i got thought like how many of us truly understand that we need all this things to relax ourselves.as
i am seeing from so many days…that some persons they are so much suffering ..like some may have physical problems then still we can make them aware that you can feel better by doing yoga and meditation..they may believe us and may start..but the people who are sufferning from emotional issues and hurts they dont even know that they need help..they dont realise it that these techniques may help them..as if their state of mind with depression is like still water and our trying to make them realise is like throwing a pebble into that water ..and that they dont like at all..as they are used to their depressive state that dont want any changes in that…so my point is just to give awareness to people that firstly that they need to come out of that state and secondly how they can come out. and then telling them these techniques that help them to not go into further disasters and keep the stability of mind by rising above the physical and emotional and know themselves and then channelising that energy from within to WORK efficiently instead of using that great energy of mind in just discovering the past.
sorry i go out of topic but this is what i felt so wrote as we will go for meditation then only when we realise it that we should go and we have the need to recognise ourself…otherwise however techniques we do is of no use at all…so first need is to be Aware of that we need it…
Thank YOU So much Sanjib…because of your articles i have started thinking about other things and others as well..as my whole energy was just limited to my own thoughts and problems before….love and regards to you and all our YOGA CLUB…:):):):)

I remember Sri Sri saying once (I think it was more than a decade ago in Bangalore) that meditation is the art of discovering nothingness.

When you drop all encumbrances of identity and identification, you are left with the purest form of the self. Almost everything we imagine, experience, perceive or believe manifests in the form of a thought. Only in a state of thoughtlessness, you achieve nothingness which is your purest form and an answer to ‘Who am I’? And we are nothing and in that we are everything! Opposite values are complimentary indeed!

The etymological root for meditation=Sadhana which is Sa+adhya+ana…(Sa= together, adhya=spirit as in adhyatmic=spiritual and ana= naturally). So simply, meditation is being together with ONLY your essential nature. That is the reason why in deep meditation, you discover pure bliss and unfathomable joy for that is our very true nature:-), perpetually!

Meditation is supreme” Vishram” It is deep rest and diving within.

  17. Ashwini Derebail says:

i guess meditation is when u do anything with complete concentration.. at that time u r neither in past nor future, nor sad or happy.. there is a complete silence n peace in you..

  18. Puja Batra Arora says:

    very nice

  19. Kriti Seth says:

meditation is just being n not trying to do or not do anything. d secret of meditation is “no effort’.

  20. Esse says:

At Pranic Healing we have a rather short meditation , the Twin Heart meditation, even this meditation is really helpful.

  21. Jaishree Charan says:

Meditation is opposite to concentration…just let go…and at some point you are in total sink with the universe,,,,

  22. Sitha Sabesh says:

meditation is doing nothing mentally and physically.so y did u put meditation with action .,,, can we say like this meditation is feeling all the action of the universe within us?”

  23. Sanjib Mukherjee says:

Hi Sitha, yah you are absolutely right, meditation is connection with the entire consciousness within us, and thus giving us all the powers of the ultimate soul to achieve anything we set our minds to.

  24. Meena Kumar says:

hi-need to study this n free time!

  25. Meena Kumar says:

hmm-just read the article-sanjib-lovely way of dalai lama
-good way of handling the enemies I suppose-let us try so-someday!!

  26. Sanjib Mukherjee says:

In reality, what we perceive on the outside is how we truly feel about ourselves on the inside. The only confrontation that ever truly arises is the turmoil we have inside. This may be uncomfortable truth for those just starting on the spiritual path…but ultimately, is is the truth.

In finding enemies with others, we only find an enemy within ourself….overcome your own mind, and you overcome any obstacles in life…this is the code of a true spiritual warrior..

  27. Rekha Malhotra says:

Sanjib …Nice CODE as always…trully agree ….i just had such experience and in finding enemy in other person i just bothered myself only …nothing harm to enemy ..but my peace of mind got lost…so i will always remember your code ..and try to be friendly toward me by not seeing enemity in others…:) thanks for sharing your thought on this..:)

  28. Muthukumaraswamy Senthil Kumar says:
