By Paramhansa Yogananda,
Every soul is destined to be perfect, and every being, in the end, will attain to that state. Whatever we are now is the result of whatever we have been or thought in the past, and whatever we shall be in the future will be the result of what we do or think now. The greatest of all happiness, next to divine happiness, is to be at peace with one’s immediate relations, those with whom one must live every day in the year.
When people try to handle the extremely complicated machinery of human feelings without any training whatsoever, the consequent results are often disastrous. Very few persons realize that most of our happiness lies in the art of understanding the law of human behaviour.
That is why so many people are often “in hot water” with their friends, and, worse yet, at constant war with their own best beloved ones at home. The basic law of right human behaviour is self-reform…. Whenever any trouble occurs with our friends or dear ones, we should inwardly lay the blame on ourselves for getting into an unpleasant situation and then try to get out of it as fast and as graciously as we can.
It is fruitless to increase the trouble by loudly, unkindly, discourteously blaming others, even though we find that they are to blame. We can teach quick-tempered dear ones to mend their faults a hundred times better by setting a good example than we can by harsh or self-righteous words. In a fight, at least 2 parties are involved.
There can be no fight with you if you refuse to participate. If someone speaks to you in hurtful language, remain quiet; or say, “I am sorry if I have done something to offend you,” and then remain silent. The spiritual man conquers wrath by calmness, stops quarrels by keeping silence, dispels in harmony by being sweet of speech, and shames discourtesy by being thoughtful of others. There is no more liberating action than sincerely to give people kindness in return for unkindness.
If someone speaks to you in hurtful language, remain quiet; or say, “I am sorry if I have done something to offend you,” and then remain silent.
Its the best way of avoiding problems in our life and the fight too.

I can and am following these steps but can’t cope up with the pain given by these difficult people, I find it quite difficult
Its ok Rita, don’t try and solve all your problems in one go.. really we can never change others, but we can change the way we react to them…work on changing yourself, and then you change your world..
well said sanjib I agree You must be the change you wish to see in the world.
Very good article
thanx sanjib! i’ll try to change myself
thanks a lot for these great words of wisdom.
It has been observed over a period of time since time immemorial that when certain sections of people read the holy texts or even us for that matter, we/they inerpret it according to our/their convenience…for which today there is so much violence and misgivings.
Therefore in order to fully understand it in a neutral way and also to keep an open … See Moremind as all texts have different meanings at different times like the Bhagvad Gita, one needs a master or a teacher toguide us through the books and to bring about totality and completeness in us and fulfillment….So having a MASTER in our life is the biggest blessing……
Amazing Blog, I haven’t seen until now. Yoganandji is my Guru. His book Divine Romance is kind of Bhagavad Gita to me which I read almost everyday to keep up my spirits. This is an amazing article that has been posted. Thanks very much. Please keep me posted if ther are any workshops that you may have in NewJersey in near future.
Thanks,
